If We Care About Justice, We Have to Care About Endings

Setting the terms of an ending is a raw expression of power, and justice is all about power. In spring 2025, surrounded as we were with firings and dismantling rooted in pettiness, resulting in profound damage, it was easy for those of us who care about justice to see harm only in what was coming out of DC.

We can and must do two things at once. We can and must be loud and bold and use all the tools in our toolbox to fight the gleeful demolition of agencies and the devastation of lives in the US and around the world. And philanthopy and nonprofits (a group I count myself as part of) can and must use this as an opportunity to resolve to do better ourselves.
